Smith Tops the Field Shooting a 73 at Alvernia Fall Invitational

MOHNTON, Pa. – The Catholic women's golf team played in the Alvernia Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a first place finish. The Cardinals shot a 330 as a team to finish 12 strokes higher than the next closest team.

Brooke Smith was the best overall player in the field during the day, finishing with a 73 (+1) which was six strokes better than any other player on the course. Her 73 ties for the fifth-lowest round in program history. She recorded one birdie on hole 15 and poured in 15 pars in total in the match to finish on top of the field.

The next best finishers for the Cardinals were Lauren Wright and Gabi Courtney, who each finished the round at 85. Wright finished her round with seven pars in total, including five on the front nine holes and Courtney had nine in total in the round. The two finished in a tie for fifth place in the standings.

Harper Capilli also collected a top 10 finish, coming in ninth while shooting an 87. She came away with a birdie on 16 and also added four pars in her round.

Meghan Mullen had the best finish on the Catholic 'B' team, also placing in the top 10 at eighth while shooting an 86. On the front nine, she had two birdies and three pars and she came away with three more pars after the turn. 

The Cardinals next match will be at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, October 17 at the Hanover Country Club.
