TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore
Lorenzo Neri was named Landmark Athlete of the Week for his performance at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships this past weekend, it was announced today. Neri collected three wins during the tournament between doubles and singles play which was the most out of any Landmark athlete who played over the weekend.
Neri started off with a victory in the championship singles bracket in the first round by taking both sets six games to one to advance to the second round. He drew the number two seed in the bracket in the second round and was able to take three games off him in a hard-fought match but fell short. He became the first Catholic men's player to win a singles match at ITA's.
In doubles action, Neri played alongside
Ian Arenas and the pair recorded two 8-6 victories in the consolation bracket against Moravian and Roanoke.
It is the second time in Neri's career that he has earned Landmark Athlete of the Week and the first time he has done so this season. He is the second Catholic player to earn the honor thus far this season.
The Cardinals are back at home on Saturday, October 11 to take on Frostburg State. The match will start at 11 am on the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
