Neri Earns First Round Win in Singles at ITA's

| By:
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Catholic men's tennis competed at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships over the weekend, hosted by Mary Washington.

Lorenzo Neri played in the championship singles bracket and earned a victory in his first round matchup against Maxwell Esztergomi from St. Mary's. Neri controlled the match, taking both sets six games to one to advance to the second round. He matched up with the number two seed, Michael Melnikov from Swarthmore, and hung tough but fell in both sets. He became the first Catholic men's player to pick up a singles win at ITA's.

Neri also played with Ian Arenas in the B2 doubles bracket and took on Lynchburg. In a well played match, the pairing went to a tiebreak all tied at seven games, but fell 7-4 in the tiebreak. The two took on Moravian in their consolation match and played in a very competitive match. After falling behind 4-2, Neri and Arenas won six of the last eight games to capture an 8-6 victory.

The Cardinals are back at home for their next home match to take on Frostburg State on Saturday, October 11.
