Catholic Places Sixth in Landmark Conference Fall Preview

SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, Pa. – The Catholic men's golf team wrapped up the fall season over the weekend, competing in the Landmark Conference Preview. All 10 teams in the conference participated over the two days with the action finishing on Sunday afternoon.

After shooting a score of 310 as a team in the first round to be sitting in a tie for third place in the standings, the Cardinals shot a 318 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 628 to come in sixth place in the standings. 

Joe Earley had the best all-around tournament for Catholic, shooting a 153 over the two rounds to finish in a tie for seventh place on the weekend. He put together an impressive first round when he shot a 73 (+1), including shooting two under par on the front nine. On his first 13 holes, Earley totaled 11 pars and two birdies and finished the round with pars on three of his last four holes. He came back on Sunday and finished with nine pars and two birdies and finished with a score of 80 to come the highest in the field for the Cardinals.

The next best Catholic finisher was Jack Davenport, who finished in a tie for 26th as he shot a 79 in both of his rounds to finish the weekend at 158. Davenport had a strong finish on the back nine of round one, shooting two over par with a pair of birdies and three pars. In his second round, he ended the front nine with four straight pars and picked up his lone birdie in the round on the 15th hole. 

The Cardinals other participants were Matthew Begg, Timothy Doheny and Matthew Dietl. Begg finished in a tie for 32nd with a 161 (84, 77) and Doheny (78, 84) and Dietl (80, 82) came in one stroke higher to come in a tie for 35th. 

Today's event concludes the fall golf season as the Cardinals will gear up for the championship season in the spring.
