Cardinals Place 23rd at 60th Year of Head of the Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – In their second race in the fall season, Catholic women's rowing placed 23rd in the women's collegiate eights division at the Head of the Charles on Sunday afternoon.

This year marked the 60th year of the Head of the Charles event, which has been held on the Charles River since 1965. The Head of the Charles Regatta is the world's largest three-day rowing event and this season marked the fourth time in program history that Catholic participated. 

After coming in 28th place last season with a time of 18:54.266, the Cardinals moved up five spots in the standings this year, coming in 23rd in the event out of 37 teams that participated with a time of 18:21.276 to finish over 30 seconds faster than the crew's time last season.

Catholic reached the first checkpoint at 4:11.329 and clocked in at 5:42.564 over the second leg, before finishing with a time of 5:06.431 over the final split to finish in the top 25 of the field over URI and Trinity. 

The team consisted of Sadie Mattaliano in the coxswain position with Ellie Tynan at the bow and Annie Mountcastle in the stroke position. The other Cardinals in the boat were Katherine-Elizabeth Ma (2), Madelyn Bronson (3), Maeve Donnelly (4), Alexia Levine (5), Bridget Robben (6) and Claudia Hindley (7). 

Next up for Catholic will be a trip to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the Head of the Schuykill on Saturday, October 25.
