Lutcher and Tsakumis Swim to First Place Finishes at American

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – The Catholic men's swimming and diving team took a short trip on Saturday afternoon to take on American. The Cardinals fell 146-80 in the meet but had a few personal best performances throughout the action.

Teddy Tsakumis topped the field in the 100 freestyle coming in with a time of 47.56 which was his personal best to help him come away with a first place finish. Alexander Tsakumis came in third place in the 200 freestyle as he posted a personal best time of 1:49.51.

Benjamin Lutcher also came away with a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke as he clocked in with a personal-best time of 1:01.72 which was nearly two seconds faster than anyone else in the field. Colin Raue and Reid Knuckles came in second and third place respectively in the race with times of 1:03.60 and 1:12.90.

On the diving board, Gabriel Hermann came away with a first place finish in the one-meter dive, finishing with a score of 244.87. Hermann also finished in second in the three-meter dive with a score of 221.17.

Catholic started the meet off with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team made up by both Tsakumis', Bill Purcell and Jack Thompson. They were just nearly edged out for first place, clocking in at 1:36.21. The same team swam the 200 freestyle relay, except for James Caldwell replacing Purcell, and the Cardinals also came in second in that relay by just .05 seconds with a time of 1:27.31.

John Holler swam a solid race in the 500 freestyle, coming in second place with a time of 4:53.46.

The Cardinals will have their first home meet of the season on Saturday, October 25 when they welcome in Landmark foe Scranton. The meet is set to start at 1 pm.
