Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic men's tennis team returned home for Family Weekend to take on Frostburg State. The Cardinals battled tough against the Bobcats but fell short in a competitive match, 4-3.
The Cardinals got off on the right foot by sweeping the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Jake Hershey and
Flynn Hollinger wrapped up their match first in the number three spot, winning six games to one.
Lorenzo Neri and
Ian Arenas were in the number two slot and wrapped up their match next, 6-3.
James Earwood and
Diego Romo defeated a DII regionally ranked pair in the top spot, taking the set six games to four.
Romo played number six singles and earned the first singles win for Catholic in the match, handling business in both sets, 6-0. Hershey picked up the other singles win for the Cardinals in the fifth spot, winning 6-2 and 6-4.
The match came down to the number four singles matchup where Hollinger played for the Cardinals. He split the first two sets and the decisive third set came down to a tiebreaker. Hollinger dropped the tiebreaking set 10-7, which allowed the Bobcats to earn the victory.
The Cardinals next match is on the road against Gettysburg on Saturday, October 18. The match will start at 12 pm on the Bullets Tennis Courts.
