WAYNESBORO, Pa. – The Catholic men's golf team competed in the Mason-Dixon Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday and finished in 12th place with a team score of 624. Catholic as a team were stronger over the first round of the match, shooting a 302 as a squad, following up in the second round shooting a 322.
Matthew Begg had the best finish of the weekend for the Cardinals after starting the weekend off with the lowest round of his young career. Begg finished Saturday with a 73 while picking up his first career eagle to go along with two birdies and eight pars in the first round. In round two, Begg went on a six hole stretch on the back nine with five pars and a birdie to help him finish with a 79 on the round to finish in 38th overall in the field.
Joe Earley started out sharp over the weekend as he shot a 37 on the front nine on Saturday, with two pars and two birdies on his first four holes. He finished with nine pars and three birdies during his first round to finish with a 76. Earley only added two more strokes on his second round score, pouring in 10 more pars and a birdie to finish with a 78. Early finished in a tie for 43rd place in the standings.
Timothy Doheny was the next finisher for Catholic, shooting a 76 in his first round, including a stretch where he parred seven straight holes on the front nine. He shot an 82 on Sunday to finish with a 158 for the weekend.
Jack Davenport and
Matthew Dietl also competed for the Cardinals as Davenport shot a 77 and 84 in his two rounds and Dietl shot an 81 and 83.
