Cardinals Capture Convincing Win Over Drew in Season-Opener

MADISON, N.J. – The Catholic women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2025-26 season at Drew on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals had a solid all-around opening meet of the season, coming away with an impressive 181-90 victory for the program's second straight season-opening meet win over Drew. 

Chris Paynter earned his first career win with the Cardinals over the Rangers. Catholic had five one-two finishes in the meet, securing the top two spots in the 200 Free, 100 Breast, 200 Breast, 500 Free and 400 Free Relay. The Cardinals swam great times across the board to get the season started on the right foot against the Rangers.

Tara Wiarda, Delainey Brandt, Taylor O'Neil and Izzy Giannetto started the meet off with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.90 to take first place. Wiarda added two more first place finishes on the afternoon in the 100 and 200 backstroke. She clocked in at 1:00.02 and 2:11.08 in those respective races. 

The Cardinals added another relay win in the 400 Free as Maura Sadowski, Emily Blaskovich, Grace Kelly and Gianetto swam to a time of 3:49.73 to pace the rest of the field. Sodowski also came in first in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:23.63. 

Anna Dymek shined in her collegiate debut, coming in first place in the 200 Back with a time of 2:32.44. She followed up finishing on top of the field in the 200 IM, finishing with a time of 2:16.51.

Freshman Adriel Marrero had a standout meet for the Catholic, topping the field in 200 Free with a time of 2:03.34. 

Molly Foltz added another first place finish for the Cardinals in the 200 Butterfly (2:18.63) and added another one in the 500 Free (5:29.71). 

Jordan Hewitt had the best finish for the Cardinals on the diving board, from one meter, taking second with a score of 110.70.
