MADISON, N.J. – The Catholic men's swimming and diving team notched a Landmark victory in the season opener against Drew on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals took down the Rangers 167-127 while swimming several solid times to open the season.
Shawn Mashburn had a strong start to his campaign, picking up two victories in the 1000 Free and the 500 Free. He clocked in at 10:06.52 in the 1000 and followed up in the 500 with a time of 4:50.63.
Teddy Tsakumis also added a first place finish in the 100 Back, coming 1.2 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 54.19. He notched his second solo victory on the day in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.27.
Benjamin Lutcher also showed out in the meet, capturing first place in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:12.78 to come out on top of the field.
John Holler picked up a win to add another first place for the Cardinals in the 200 Free (1:47.27).
The Cardinals earned a relay victory in the 400 Free relay, when Tsakumis was joined by
Alexander Tsakumis,
Jack Thompson and
Daniel Green to combine for a race's best time of 3:14.14.
The divers for Catholic also performed strongly as
Gabriel Hermann,
Charles Connolly III and
Jack Walsh took the top three spots in the 1-meter dive with scores of 217.50, 198.25 and 186.65 respectively. The three also performed well in the three meter dive.
The Cardinals next meet will be at American on Saturday, October 18 at 1 pm at the Reeves Aquatic Center.
