Men's Track & Field Starts New Year Hosting Cardinal Classic

LANDOVER, Md. – The Catholic men's track & field team began new year in fast fashion with a number of top-five finishes at the Cardinal Classic hosted at the PG Sports & Learning Complex on Saturday.

The Cardinals' performance on the track was highlighted by third place showings in the 200-meter and 3000-meter race. Jevontae Fearwell clocked a time of 23.22 to secure a bronze medal in a field of 76 competitors across 19 heats. He was joined in the event by Romell Randolph who placed fourth with a time of 23.23 to move into 10th on the all-time performance list. The 3000m saw Conor Gross run a personal record of 8:57.12 to move from seventh to fifth on the performance list.

Sam Compton started a streak of fourth-place finishes for the Cardinals with an positive outing in the 60-meter dash. Racing alongside teammates Fearwell (10th, 7.12) and James Galang (11th, 7.13) in the prelims, Compton placed fourth with a time of 7.06 to qualify for the final. He produced a time of 7.05 in the final to claim fourth overall.  

Chilowe Osai mirrored Compton's efforts in the 60-meter hurdles. He clocked a 8.64 in the prelims to qualify for the final, where he finished in 8.62 seconds for fourth overall. 

The track events were rounded out by with a fourth-place finish by Peter Winter in the 800-meter race (2:00.40) and a seventh-place finish by Kendrick DuPree in the 400-meter dash (52.35). Winter's time places him within the top-90 in all of Division III. The Cardinals also placed fourth in th 4x400 relay.

On the field side, Connor Powers and Quinn Brubaker combined to claim seventh and eight place respectively in the high jump. Powers sprung to a 1.80m mark while Brubaker reach 1.75m. Powers also competed in the long jump, placing fourth with a 6.23m mark. 

In the triple jump, Nathan Chaney placed sixth with a 12.70m mark and moved into eighth on the all-time performance list. 

The throwers posted two top-five finishers in the shot put and a top-15 finish in the weigh throw. James Varellas took third (12.82m) to improve his sixth all-time mark while Aidan Lang finished fifth (12.67m) to move into eighth all-time in the shot put. Mark Enamorado recorded the 10th best mark in program history with a 11.91 to place 15th in the weigh throw. 

Catholic's next meet will take place on Saturday, January 25 when it travels Pennsylania for the Coach I Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall.
