WASHINGTON, D.C.  — Catholic left handed pitcher Roman Tozzi was selected to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-American First Team, it was announced earlier today. Tozzi becomes just the second player in Catholic history to be named to the All-American squad and the first to be selected to the First Team.

Tozzi comes off a sophomore campaign where he earned several accolades, headlined by becoming a D3baseball.com Second Team All-American (5th in program history) and a ABCA Second Team All-American (3rd in program history) while being just the second player in program history to be named to both teams in the same season. Tozzi was also named the Region V Pitcher of the Year by both publications as well as being named the Pitcher of the Year in the Landmark Conference.

Tozzi posted a 2.45 ERA last season in 69.2 innings pitched which was the 10th lowest ERA in a single season in team history. He also punched out 76 batters which was the eighth-most in a single-season in program history while pitching to an 8-2 record on the season. Those eight wins were tied for the third-most in a single season in program history.

Tozzi joins Tucker Alch, who was named to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Third Team in 2023, as the only other Cardinal to earn Preseason All-American honors. 

The Cardinals season starts off on Friday, February 21 in the Matt Kurkjian ALS Awareness Invitational against Salve Regina at 3 pm.
