WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team returned to competition on Saturday at the Dufour Center Pool, scoring 68 points Mary Washington's 218.
Ava Snyder started the individual events off strong for the Cardinals with a second-place finish in the 1000 free. She finished in 11:19.20 to beat her next closest competitor by five seconds.
Four events later, the Cardinals dominated the 100 back to secure their lone sweep of the meet. Tara Wiarda led the heat with a time of 1:01.53 to win the event for the third time this season. Claire Brockmann placed second with a 1:05.27 followed by Kaitlin Patt who clocked a 1:05.94 for third.
Other impressive performances included a third-place finish by Grace Kelly in the 50 free (26.64), a second-place finish by Emily Albans in the 100 free (57.94), and a third-place finish by Wiarda in the 200 back (2:15.83).
The Cardinals fell to 2-4 overall and have three dual meets remaining on their schedule before competing at the Landmark Conference Championships in mid-Febraury.
Next, Catholic will host Marymount for a non-conference meet on Friday, January 24. The weekday contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
