Two Cardinals Finish in Top 25, Catholic Secures 6th at Cantello Invitational

Annapolis, Md. - The Catholic University women's cross country team competed at the Cantello Invitational hosted by Navy on Saturday morning. Among a field of 10 teams, the Cardinals finished in 6th place behind four Division I and a Division II program.

Six Cardinals ran the Women's 6,000 Meter. Kate Inglis started off her senior campaign with a 15th place finish and a time of 23:13.60. She bested her time from this event last year by over a minute and placed 23 spots higher on the leader board.

Emily Moehringer and Georgia Nussey tied for 37th place. Morhringer moved up four spots over the final stretch of the race as she crossed the finish line in 24:22.70. Beside her, Nussey record the same time to improve her finish by 25 spots after placing 62nd a year ago.

Catherine Lorelle and Laurel McMahon both made the top 50, finishing 44th and 46th respectively. Lorelle ran her first collegiate race in 24:50.30 while McMahon clocked a 24:57.70 to improve her time from last year's meet by nearly two minutes.

The team improved its average time by 50 seconds from this event last year.

Sophia McNavich was the first Cardinal to cross the finish line in the Women's 5,000 Meter Open. She clocked a 22:04.33 to earn a top-15 finish in her second-ever collegiate event. McNavich was followed by Elena Rohrer who went a 24:31.39 for 24th place. Julia Becker rounded out the trio with a time of 27:46.15 for 31st in her collegiate debut.

Catholic will have a few weeks off before heading to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short Run on Saturday, October 5.
