Cardinals Find Success at Day Two of ITA's

| By:
Fredericksburg, Va. – Catholic men's tennis took to the courts again on Saturday for day two of the 2024 ITA Division III Men's Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Mary Washington. The Cardinal's were featured in six matches including three doubles and three singles contests.

Lorenzo Neri and Ben Perks opened the day with a match in the B2 doubles draw against a duo from St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Catholic pair worked well together to secure a 7-5 victory. In the semifinal round, the Perk and Neri ran into tough competition from Lynchburg. After picking up a few games early, the duo struggled and fell, 5-7.

Competing in the championship doubles draw for the second season in a row, Diego Romo and James Earwood played a consolation match against a pair from Washington & Lee. The veteran duo put up a strong fight before falling 3-6.

Earwood found more success on the singles courts. The junior played a consolation match in the championship singles draw against Matthew Miller from Muhlenberg and both were evenly matched down the stretch. A tiebreaker was played to a score of 7-1 in Earwood's favor, winning him the match 8-7.

Neri and Romo also played championship singles consolation matches and both were topped by their opponent. Neri dropped a tight contest, 6-8, against a tough competitor from Lebanon Valley while Romo won five games but was bested 5-8 by his opponent from Dickinson.

ITA's will continue for one more day before the Cardinals return to team play with a trip to St. Mary's City, Md on Saturday, October 5.
