Cardinals Thriving in Summer Ball

| By:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The 2024 season may be in the rear view mirror, but the student-athletes of Catholic baseball are far from done competing.

At least 20 Cardinals have laced up their spikes for summer ball with a handful receiving accolades or putting together strong statistical off-seasons as they prepare for 2025. Below are highlights of a few Cardinals who have stood out this summer.
Rising sophomore left-handed pitcher, Meara, was one of two Cardinals represented in the inaugural East Coast Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game. Playing for the Trenton Generals, Meara earned his way onto the Southern All-Star team as one of 10 pitchers. Similar to Meara, O'Keefe, a rising senior lefty, represented the Trenton Capitals on the ECCBL All-Star Team. He was also one of 10 pitchers to represent the Southern team in the inaugural all-star game for the league.
Thomas started the summer in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, playing for the Silver Spring-Takoma Park Thunderbolts. In 19 games, Thomas hit .269 with six doubles, a home run, and 15 runs driven in. Thomas drew 12 walks and was hit by five pitches, giving him an on-base percentage of .417 for the summer. Recently, Thomas got the call to compete in the vaunted Appalachian League, playing for the Tri-State Coal Cats. He has appeared in two games, recording a hit, a walk, and an RBI.

Teammates in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England for the Vermont Lake Monsters, the duo find themselves in the heart of the race for the top of the standings. With a record of 26-19 and a record of 8-2 in its last 10, Vermont is just 0.5 games back of second and three back of first place. Marini has appeared in 30 games, hitting .247 with three doubles, a homer, and nine RBI. He has also drawn 11 walks at the plate. Pozzi has seen time in six games, logging three hits and drawing eight walks.
Cardman started the summer pitching for the BBA Eagles of the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League before recently moving into the Futures Collegiate Baseball League with the league-leading Norwich Sea Unicorns. For BBA, Cardman earned three wins and a save in 14.0 innings. He struck out 19 batters and pitched to the tune of a 1.29 ERA.
