SCRANTON, Pa. - Catholic's quest for a 14th Landmark Conference title fell short as No. 24 Scranton won its second consecutive title with a 12-5 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Rachel Rubenstein stood out on defense once again, causing four turnovers and scooping up five ground balls, but the Cardinals couldn't fully slow down the Scranton attack. Rubenstein moved into second in Catholic history in caused turnovers with 129.
Jillian Lopez led the way for Scranton scoring three goals while Grace Lane added two goals and a game-high four assists for the Royals.
Five different Cardinals had one goal each.
Charlotte Spaulding, Lindsay Sawyer, and
Izzy Fiore got the first three for Catholic who couldn't quite crack the Scranton defense, putting just eight shots on target in the first three quarters.
Jessie Lee and
Lauren Bendo each added one in the fourth but time ran out before Catholic could cut the deficit anymore.
Catholic will wait to see if they can earn an at-large bid into the NCAA DIII Tournament.
