Moehringer Earns All-America Nod at NCAA Championships

| By:

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — After a successful first day at 2024 NCAA Division III Championships yesterday, Emily Moehringer took to the track on Friday evening for the Catholic University Track and Field team in the 800-meter run.

The junior gave it a good run as she competed in the quickest of the three preliminary heats. After going out in 1:07.72, she finished with a time of 2:12.58 to place sixth in her heat and 14th overall. Both timed qualifiers came out of Moehringer's heat, joining the top two finishers in each of the three prelims.

Moehringer joined fellow Landmark Conference representatives Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw of Goucher and Kelty Oaster of Elizabethtown in the event. Thornton-Fillyaw produced a personal-best and bettered her own Landmark-Conference-record time to win her heat, running the fastest time of any competitor and the only sub 2:09 time at 2:08.35. She will have the preferred lane in tomorrow's final as Oaster, running in the same heat as Moehringer, also qualified through to the final on time at 2:10.51, speaking to the strength of the conference in this particular event.

Moehringer joins Thornton-Fillyaw and Oaster as All-Americans after the run as her 14th-place finish puts her on the second team. This marks her second All-America honor of the calendar year after earning a second-team All-America nod in the indoor 800m with a 13th-place effort in early March.

All three Cardinals that attended the championship meet have clinched All-America honors as Moehringer joins Clare Marsh who placed 12th in the 400mH yesterday. Lauren Cerda has also clinched second team honors at minimum, having qualified through to tomorrow's 1500m final. The senior will run in the field of 12 finalists tomorrow at 4:25 p.m.
