NEW ORLEANS, La. - Catholic University's
Steve Rahn was named USTFCCCA South Region Women's Coach of the Year it was announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches at the conclusion of the regular season.
Rahn's women's outdoor track & field team has excelled in 2024, winning the program's first-ever Landmark Conference track & field crown while also sending three student-athletes to Myrtle Beach for this year's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Cardinals won the outdoor crown by 17 points thanks to four individual champions, five second-place finishes, and seven third-place marks.
Rahn adds another honor to an extensive list of accolades in 2023-24. Rahn and his staff swept the Landmark Coach of the Year honors on the women's side this season, winning the award during cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.
After opening the year ranked 10th in the South Region Index, Rahn's team moved up to sixth in week three. After holding steady for three more weeks, Catholic bumped to fifth in the rankings, the program's top ranking in history. All four teams ahead of Catholic in the South Region rankings have stayed in the top four slots throughout the season.
The Cardinals have placed inside the top 140 all season long in the National Rating Index, reaching as high as 88th and sitting in the top 100 in back-to-back weeks.
