Box Score Madison, NJ – The Catholic University men's tennis team bounced back with a 7-2 victory over McDaniel on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals won all three doubles matches and took four of the six singles matches.
The doubles pair of
Tycho Janssen and
Ben Perks started the day off with a dominate performance at the No. 1 spot. They only gave up one game to post a final score of 8-1. The No. 2 duo of
Henry Ogden and
Nathaniel Barish also secured a 8-1 victory to give Catholic an early lead.
At No. 3 doubles,
Leyton Ramos-Platt and
Lucas Boyle won a competitive set. The pair kept their composure as their opponent applied pressure down the stretch, ultimately coming away with a 8-5 win.
Diego Romo competed in the No. 1 singles spot. After securing a win in set one, he found himself down 4-5 in the second before winning the final three games.
Perks and Ogden both continued their day with solid performances at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. Each of their opponents only won one game, finishing with identical scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Ramos-Platt saw a competitive match filled with back-and-forth action. He forced the first set to a tie break before falling 7-6. He made a comeback push in the second set to win 6-2. In the third set, he battled to win five games but ultimately fell 5-10.
Boyle also show tremendous grit throughout his match. He won the first set and dropped the second to force a third set tiebreak. He took care of business to end it 10-2.
The Cardinals will return to Landmark Conference play with a match against Juniata on Sunday, April 13. The away contest is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
