The Catholic University men's track and field team sent athletes to two different events on Saturday afternoon. A group remained in Philadelphia for day two of Penn Relays while others made the trip to Elizabethtown for the Blue Jay Tune-Up in preparation for next weekend's conference championships.
Penn Relays – Franklin Field
Christian Di Nicolantonio placed fourth in the Pole Vault Championship in a field full of Division I competitors, clearing a school and conference record 5.16 meters. The junior beat his own record of 5.12m set at Penn Relays last year that was also the standings conference record. He is currently the number one pole vaulter in Division III and is the first DIII athlete since 2011 to medal in the Penn Relays Pole Vault Championship.
The 4x100 relay team featuring
Jevontae Fearwell,
Sam Compton,
Sebastian Lopez and
James Galang took home bronze after clocking in with a time 41.51 in the College Final. Catholic topped multiple DI programs and was the top DIII quartet in the field, producing the second fastest time in program history in the event.

Kendrick DuPree,
Gabe Stypul and
Nick Troy capped off a successful weekend in the 4x400 relay, finishing seventh in the Eastern Final with a time of 3:30.24.Â
Blue Jay Tune-Up — Elizabethtown Track & Field Facility
Josh Phillips and
Jonathan Forrest represented the Cardinals in the 110m hurdles. The duo placed fifth and sixth as Phillips recorded a time of 18.26 seconds while Forrest clocked a 19.32.
The hammer thrown saw two Cardinals improve on their season-best marks.
Luke Pappano set a new personal record with a 36.66m to place seventh whileÂ
Aidan Lang earned a season-best 36.38 for eighth place. The pair also competed in the shot put, highlighted by Lang's 12.12m performance for fifth.Â
Before traveling back to Franklin Field for the 4x4 final at 6 p.m., Stypul was victorious in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 4.15m. He bested his closest opponent by .3 meters to secure the top spot.
In the high jump,
Charles Connolly IIIÂ placed sixth with a 1.64m.Â
Colin Matthews also grabbed a fourth-place finish with his coming in the 400-meter race with a 53.39.
The Cardinals will return to Elizabethtown in a weeks time for a the Landmark Conference Championships. Catholic was picked to finish second behind defending championships Susquehanna in the annual coaches poll.
