Women's 4x400 Breaks 44-Year-Old Record, All Four Relays Qualify for Finals

Philadelphia, Pa. – All four of Catholic track and field's relay teams qualified for tomorrow's finals after impressive performances at Penn Relays on Friday. The successes were highlighted by the women's 4x400 relay who broke a 44-year-old program record by more than three seconds!

The women's 4x100 relay kicked the day off for Catholic at the Penn Relays as they posted the third-fastest time in program history to qualify for tomorrow's finals in the 4x1 Eastern race. Erin Buckley, Sarah Schumacher, Megan Burns and Ellie Bixenman clocked a time of 49.89, the fourth time this season the program has recorded a sub-50 second time. The group placed ninth to earn the final qualification spot for tomorrow's race which will take place at 4:45 p.m.

The men's 4x100 relay also qualified for Saturday's final with the second-fastest time in program history. Sam Compton, Jevontae Fearwell, Sebastian Lopez and James Galang clocked a time of 41.48 to finish sixth overall in a field full of Division I and Division II competition. The group's time was just shy of the program standard set at the Fred Hardy Invitational as the quartet clocked in just .04 slower than that time. The Cardinals will follow the women at 4:50 p.m.

Fearwell qualified for another final alongside teammates Gabe Stypul, Nick Troy and Kendrick DuPree. The 4x400 relay team clocked a time of 3:24.03 to place ninth and snag the last qualifying spot by half a second. They will compete in the Eastern Final tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.

The women's 4x400 relay finished the day with a record-breaking performance. Clare Marsh, Emily Moehringer, Zoey Brown and Brigid Byrnes combined to cross the finish line in 3:58.30 to comfortably beat out the previous program record. The Cardinal quartet became the first women in program history to complete the event in under four minutes, breaking the program record of 4:01.54 that had stood since 1980. The final race will take place tomorrow just before the men's event at 5:55 p.m.

Jordyn Walker showed well on the field side of things to place 22nd in both the long jump and the triple jump. His long jump mark of 6.44 meters was just .02 meters behind his closest opponent. He recorded a mark of 13.59 meters in the triple jump to come in just under his previous mark of 13.63m from the Fred Hardy Invitational. Both fields were scattered with Dl competitors.

The Cardinals will return to Franklin Field tomorrow for day two of action.
