Sprint Relay Record Falls Again on Strong Day at Hopkins Invitational

| By:
BALTIMORE, Md. - Erin Buckley played a part in a pair of school records once again as she bettered her own time in the 100-meter dash and ran a leg of the program-record breaking 4x100 relay this afternoon in Baltimore.

The Cardinals continue to improve upon their all-time program sprint times in 2024 with the 4x100 relay record falling yet again as they raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 49.13. The crew of Buckley, Sarah Schumacher, Felicity Giampietro, and Ellie Bixenman bested the program's previous top time of 49.84 set last week at the Bison Outdoor Classic.

All four runners posted strong times in the 100 with Buckley clocking a time of 12.44 seconds to improve upon her program record. Giampietro and Schumacher finished 14th and 15th while each logging new personal bests with times of 12.76 and 12.78 respectively.

Sophomore Anna Scoblick and freshman Brigid Byrnes had the standout field performances for Catholic. Scoblick inched ever closer to the program record in the high jump as she leaped 1.65 meters to set a new personal best and finish second at the meet. Scoblick's mark would currently tie her for 19th in Division III. Teammate Courtney Cutting matched her personal best mark with a 1.50-meter jump to finish sixth. As for Byrnes, she flew past the program record in the long jump with a 5.26 meter leap to place eighth on Saturday. Cutting also set a new PR mark in the long jump at 4.84 meters.

Giampietro and Schumacher led a strong crew in the 200 with Giampietro posting the top Cardinal time to move to third on the all-time list with a mark of 26.28 seconds. Schumacher and Byrnes finished right behind her to take fourth and fifth on the all-time list with times of 26.40 and 26.46. Zoey Brown also set a personal best time in the event, clocking in at 27.02.

Apolline Gaspers and Emily Moehringer had strong performances in the mid-distance events with Gaspers racing to the second-fastest 1,500 time in program history. She clocked in a time of 4:41.26 to finish eighth in the event and edge past Moehringer who grabbed second place on the list just last week. Moehringer finished second in the 800 with a speedy time of 2:16.23 on Saturday.

Other impressive showings on the track included Sadie Abood's new PR time of 18:48.87 in the 5,000 as she moved into eighth on Catholic's all-time performance list. Mia McConnell had a pair of strong times in the 100 hurdles (16.45) and 400 hurdles (1:06.93) while Edith Tomasek (16.53) wasn't far behind in the 100 hurdles.
