The Cardinals plated four runs in the opening inning to strike first on Saturday.
Steve Thomas led the game off with his ninth double of the season and scored on a
Mitchel Johnson double to open the scoring.

After back-to-back scoreless innings, Catholic tacked on two more runs in the fourth as
Derek Zelesnick powered his second career home run over the left field fence, scoring
Jack Elwell to give the Cardinals a six-run advantage.Â
Roman Tozzi was cruising early, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning and a scoreless outing into the sixth before Moravian's bats came to life. Matt Madigan started the inning with a single, scoring on an RBI double from Chris Pow. Paul Croyle singled to score Pow before Tozzi issued a pair of walks to load the bases. Wyatt Harrar smacked a grand slam to clear the bases and tie the game at 6-6, forcing Tozzi from the contest.
Lucky Perrotto came on for Catholic and Moravian scored one more to take a 7-6 lead.Â
The Cardinals loaded the bases in the seventh, but Elwell lined out to end the threat before Moravian added one more insurance run in the bottom half of the inning as Harrar drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.Â
Eilbacher doubled in the ninth inning, but Burman was retired to end the contest as the Greyhounds completed the comeback victory.Â
Game 2 - Catholic 1, Moravian 0
Catholic senior
Danny Fitzgerald took the ball in game two and was outstanding, tossing 8.0 innings of three-hit ball to blank the Greyhounds. Fitzgerald struck out seven for Catholic before turning the ball over to classmate
Cormac Terry who tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the save.Â
Fitzgerald improves to 4-1 on the season as he lowered his ERA from 4.50 to 3.60 with the outing. For the season, he has now tossed 40.0 innings and struck out 35 batters for Catholic.Â
Thomas wasted no time starting the scoring for Catholic as he led off the contest with a solo home run, his third long ball of the season, but Catholic would not push another run across. The Cardinals added six other hits, drew three walks, and were hit by three pitches but ultimately used just the one run to come away victorious.Â
Burton had three hits in the contest, all singles, raising his average to a team-best .369 while Elwell had his fourth multi-hit game of the season and first since April 6. Thomas was hit by two pitches to go with his home run. Thomas, Burton, and Lacefield have all been hit by 16 pitches in 2024 as Catholic has totaled 76 hit-by-pitches this season.Â
Game three in the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 12 p.m. before Catholic returns to D.C. for a big home stand in the late portion of the season.
