CHERRY HILL, NJ – The Catholic University men's rowing team had an impressive showing at the Knecht Cup on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals raced three boats including two varsity eights and a varsity four and recorded two top-five finishes.
The regatta was originally scheduled to span over two days, but windy weather conditions forced the event to be condensed into a single day of action.
The varsity four competed in Heat 1 of Event 12. Facing strong Division II and Division lll opponents, Catholic finished in fifth place with a time of 8:58.92. Stockton top the leaderboard with a 7:31.70 followed by St. Mary's (7:38.53) and Skidmore (7:47.40).
The first varsity eight finished second in Heat 1 of Event 25 with a time of 6:27.72. The Cardinals were only 11.42 seconds off of the winning pace produced by Ithaca's first varsity squad. Catholic's second varsity eight recorded a third-place finish with a time of 6:57.95. Trinity won this heat with a time of 6:31.09 followed by Ithaca's second boat which clocked a 6:46.63.
The Cardinals' next race is on Saturday, April 20 hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) and Washington College.
