Cards Post Dominant Win over Goucher

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's lacrosse team came up with a comprehensive victory over Goucher on Wednesday afternoon, putting 23 goals past the Gophers.

The Catholic offense was clicking on all cylinders as 12 different Cardinals scored. Mia Perkell led the way with four goals while Ariana Bransfield, Izzy Fiore and Lindsay Sawyer all tallied hat tricks.

Despite starting the game in a woman-down situation due to a jewelry violation at the opening draw, Catholic came out quickly and got on the board just 33 seconds into the game. Maggie Traynor put home from a Riley Martin assist on the player disadvantage.

Goucher scored just 21 seconds later to equalize but Meghan McDonogh's team then found a new gear, scoring the next 12 goals to close the quarter up 13-1.

Catholic was utterly dominant throughout the contest, producing a streak of over 58 minutes of game time without conceding a goal. Goucher scored in the first minute and final minute of the affair.

The clear was an area of success for the Cardinals, going a perfect 6-for-6 while holding Goucher to just 3-for-16. Catholic also went 5-for-6 on free-position shots while defender Caroline Gaines won seven draw controls on the day.

The 23 goals is the most that Catholic has scored this season. The Cardinals netted 24 twice last year, against both Goucher and Elizabethtown.

Moravian is next of the docket as the Cardinals complete a three-game home stand on Saturday. Opening draw control against the Greyhounds is set for 1 p.m.
