RICHMOND, Va. — The Catholic University men's track and field team opened the outdoor season at the Fred Hardy Invite on Friday. The meet has been hosted by the University of Richmond since 2005.
The relay team of
Sam Compton, Jevontae Fearwell, Sebastian Lopez, and
Chilowe Osai set the tone early with a record-breaking performance in the 4x100. The squad set a new school record by over half a second to secure the top spot a with a time of 41.44 seconds. Farewell and Compton were a part of the 2022 relay team that previously held the record at 42.05.
Farewell continued his impressive day with an all-time personal record in the 400m run with a time of 50.21. Compton also added to his efficient day with a top-three finish in the 100-meter dash. He crossed the finish line in 11.14 seconds, just .01 behind the second-place finisher.
Jordyn Walker, who currently holds the program record in the outdoor triple jump, placed third in the event today behind two Division I competitors from Lehigh University. His mark of 13.63 puts him at seventh on the 2024 DIII Track & Field Performance List to start the young season.
The Cardinals will return to action on April 5 for two days of competition at the Dalton Ebanks Invite hosted by George Mason. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 am.
