SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Catholic University baseball team fell to Susquehanna in Selinsgrove on Friday afternoon in a game that was shifted forward one day due to impending inclement weather.

The River Hawks jumped on the Cardinals early, plating one run in the first and four runs in the second. After Susquehanna got out of a first-inning jam that saw two Cardinals left on base, the River Hawks benefited from a two-out fielding error to grab the lead. The home team then took advantage of four hits to push across four in the second inning to take command of the contest.

Tony Rossi went yard for Susquehanna in the fourth inning to add two more and put his team up 7-0, closing Catholic starter Danny Fitzgerald's line as his day came to an end after that frame.

Catholic was able to get on the board in the top of the seventh when Mitchel Johnson swatted one through the left side of the infield to score Zach Burton. Following Johnson's at-bat, the Susquehanna coaching staff elected to remove Ryan Redmond who had maintained a shutout until that point. Adam Stuck entered and got the final out of the inning, retiring Catholic's next batter, Steve Thomas.

After relieving Fitzgerald to the tune of two strong innings of scoreless work, longman Mac Meara came back out for the bottom of the seventh frame, which proved to be an inning to forget for Catholic. The Cardinals failed to record an out as Susquehanna plated four runs courtesy of three singles, a fielder's choice with no out recorded and a walk. Sean Murphy entered at the end of the inning but all four runs went on Meara's line as Susquehanna ended the game early courtesy of the newly-instituted run rule.

Johnson was the only Cardinal to register more than one hit as Burton, Thomas and Jack Elwell each recorded one apiece.

The Cardinals will take a day off to avoid tomorrow's rain before resuming their series with the River Hawks on Sunday. The two teams are slated to compete in a doubleheader set for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
