DMR Sets New Program, Conference Records at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet

| By:

MEDFORD, Mass. — Competing at the Tufts National Qualifier in hopes of earning a bid into the NCAA Indoor Championship field, the Catholic University women's track and field DMR team flew to a program and Landmark-Conference-record time of 11:51.84. Earlier this season, Catholic clocked a time of 11:53.46 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational to set a new program record. The Cardinals gave it another go, looking to qualify, and registered a top-15 time in Division III this year, shaving more than two seconds off of the previous record.

Apolline Gaspers ran the opening leg, followed by Brigid Byrnes, Emily Moehringer and Lauren Cerda. The group placed fifth in the event with all six teams clocking times in the top 20 in Division III this season. WPI won the event with a time of 11:40.20 to post the third-fastest DMR time this season.

Kate Inglis also broke her own program record in the 3000m in Massachusetts today, placing seventh in the event with a time of 10:07.75. She squeezes past her previous program-record time of 10:08.96 to remain on top of the program performance list. Her time is 18 seconds faster than anyone else in program history.

Jordyn Walker hit the field in two events, the long jump and the triple jump. The program record holder in both events leaped to victory in the triple jump with a mark of 14.28 meters, breaking his own program record and pushing him into the national top 25 (24th) in the event. He produced a jump of 6.61 meters to place fourth in the triple jump.

Jevontae Fearwell competed in the 60-meter dash, running a qualifying time of 6.97 in the prelims and finishing third in the final with a time of 7.00 to conclude a tremendous indoor campaign for the junior.

Junior pole vaulter Christian Di Nicolantonio will compete at NCAA DIII Championships next weekend after vaulting a Landmark-Conference-record height of 5.20m early in the season that has kept him in the national top five all campaign (currently second). Steve Rahn will wait to see if any other athletes will join Di Nicolantonio there when the official qualifying lists are unveiled in the coming days, though that seems unlikely. The two-day championship meet will commence on Friday, March 8, at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
