Cerda Earns Athlete of the Week after Record-Breaking Mile Run

| By:
TOWSON, Md. — Women's track and field senior Lauren Cerda has been named Landmark Conference Track Athlete of the Week after a historic run at the Navy Select.

Cerda, competing in her first season of collegiate track, produced the first-ever sub-five-minute mile in program history. This marks the third time this season that the mile record has been broken as Cerda and Apolline Gaspers haven each traded possession of the record now. Prior to this season, the previous record had stood for four decades.

This is Cerda's first career athlete of the week honor. The four-year Catholic soccer player who appeared in over 50 games, served as a two-year captain and playing a vital role in the team's 12-win season has quickly found success on the track.

Cerda now sits in the top 30 nationally in the mile ahead of the fast-approaching Landmark Conference Championships. Catholic is expected to lock into a heated battle with Susquehanna for the 2024 title.
