WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's lacrosse team opened its season on Saturday, falling to one of the best teams in the country in the shape of Salisbury.

Maggie Traynor scored the first goal of her Catholic career, finding the net on an unassisted tally with 5:03 remaining in the third quarter.

Senior Lauren Davidson made six saves while Grace Button grabbed two ground balls and caused three turnovers. Catholic held the edge in team draw controls at 12-7 with Lauren Bendo leading the way with four victories.

Camryn Pepper led the way for No. 8 Salisbury with two goals and four assists while Grace Doyle scored a hat trick.

The Cardinals will return to action next Saturday when they travel north to Lancaster, Pa., to battle No. 6 Franklin and Marshall. Opening draw control is set for 1 p.m.
