SALISBURY, Md. – The Catholic University men's tennis team traveled to Salisbury on Saturday afternoon for its first match of the spring season. The Cardinals put up a strong fight against one of the toughest opponents on their schedule, but ended up dropping the contest 0-9.
Tycho Janssen and
Allan Van Nostrand combined at No. 1 doubles and picked up two wins in the match. The duo kept the serve through the first five games before losing the remainder. Likewise,
James Earwood and
Diego Romo held the serve for the majority of the game at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell 3-8.
At No. 1 singles, Janssen found himself in a competitive match that was decided by a small margin. He fell in the first set by one break of serve and the second set by two breaks.
Earwood played a back-and-fourth battle at No. 3 singles. While serving with a chance to tie the set 5-5, he lost the serve to end the match 4-6. Romo also played a more competitive match than the final score showed. He was able to fight to push the first set 3-6 before losing the second 0-6.
The next match for the Cardinals is set for March 3. Elizabethtown will come to D.C. for a Landmark Conference showdown starting at 12 p.m.
