DuPree Breaks Two Records, Cardinals Begin Indoor Season at NYC Armory

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – Catholic men's track and field traveled to the NYC Armory to start its indoor season on Saturday evening. The Cardinals broke multiple records and set numerous personal bests on the day. 

Kendrick DuPree set a school and conference record in the 600-meter race with a time of 1:22.21. He broke the school record by over five seconds and overtook the Landmark Conference record of 1:24.34 set in 2012. DuPree finished second in the event behind his competitor from Widener who race a 1:20.26. 

Peter Winter and Richie Mattocks went one-two in the 1000-meter race, running blistering times of 2:39.02 and 2:45.81 respectively. Winter's performance marks his indoor collegiate debut and places him fifth on the program's all-time list. Mattocks set a new personal best by nearly five seconds. 

Christian Di Nicolantonio, the reigning National Champion in the pole vault, continued his dominance in the event. He secured first place with a mark of 4.90 meters to top his competitors by .30 meters or more. 

Jevontae Fearwell earned a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash. After finishing fourth in the prelims, the senior dropped .09 seconds in the final to record a time of 6.99 seconds. Joey Locke also earned the number two spot on the leaderboard with his performance in the 5000-meter. The sophomore ran a 16:10.75 to finish between two competitors from Goucher. 

Other notable performances included Connor Powers earning third in the high jump after recording a personal best mark of 1.82 meters. His previous best was 1.90 meters, set at last season's opener. Chilowe Osai placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished in 8.65 seconds to slot in between two competitors from TCNJ. Daniel Ponciano took eighth in the mile with a time of 4:47.24. 

Three Cardinals set personal bests and placed within the top 10 in the 400-meter race. Marco Indelicato led the way with a time of 52.38 seconds to place third. Colin Matthews followed in fifth (52.94) and Cayden Drost snuck in with a time of 54.12 for ninth. 

Catholic's next meet will be on January 18 when they host the Cardinal Track & Field Classic in Landover, Md. at the PG Sports & Learning Center.
