KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the third consecutive season, the Catholic men's soccer team had three players named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region V team, it was announced today. The Cardinals had one player named to each of the first, second and third teams, tying the second most selections in a single season in program history.
Holden Woodings was named to the All-Region First Team as a forward, putting together one of the most prolific offensive seasons in program history. Woodings became one of just four players in the program's D3 history to score 15+ goals in a season. His 15 goals led the conference this season and are tied for the 27th most in the country, along with being tied for the third-most in a single season in D3 program history. Woodings scored nine goals in nine conference games this season which also led the conference, and he currently has 32 points on the year which is the fifth-most in a single season in D3 program history. He becomes the seventh Catholic player to be named to the USC All-Region V First Team, joining
Domenico Caltabiano (2022), Darius Siahpoosh (2022), Ben Alexander (2019), Jack Long (2019), Hunter Horvath (2014) and Matt Brady (2009).
Liam Giblin was the lone Catholic player named to the All-Region V Second Team, earning the first All-Region honor of his career. Giblin stood out this season as being one of the most versatile players on the squad this season. While being a key cog in the Cardinals back line, Giblin was also second on the team in assists with four which finished tied for seventh most in the conference. He also assisted the game-winning goal in the Landmark Conference championship against Juniata and also scored the first goal of his career in the 2-1 semi-final win over Elizabethtown.
Caltabiano rounded out the All-Region selections for the Cardinals, being named to the All-Region V Third Team. He is now the first player in program history to be named to the USC All-Region team three times in their career (1st Team 2022, 2nd Team 2023). He is tied third on the team in points this season with two goals and two assists while being a key facilitator for an offense that scored the second most goals in the Landmark this season. Caltabiano is the all-time assist leader in D3 program history (20) while being t-8th in points (56) and t-9th in goals (18).
The program now has 26 USC All-Region selections in team history.
