Mugno Leads Catholic to Fourth-Place Finish at Yellow Jacket Invitational

HAMPTON, Va. — The Catholic women's swimming and diving team placed fourth at Yellow Jacket Invitational on Sunday after strong performances on day three. 

The Cardinals scored a total of 998 points to finish in the middle of the field of eight. Washington & Lee secured the top spot (1785.5) followed by Salisbury (1729.5) and Randolph-Macon (1026).

The day started with event 25, the 1650 free, and three Cardinals scored within the top 10. Ava Snyder was the first Cardinal to finish with a personal-best time of 17:50.22 for fourth place. She dropped over three seconds from her previous personal best set at the Landmark Conference Championships last year. Molly Foltz was the second Cardinal to touch the wall, finishing in 17:55.30 to place sixth. Maura Sadowski snagged tenth with a personal-best time of 18:12.55. 

Tara Wiarda excelled in the following event. She placed fourth in the 200 back with a season-best time of 2:08.09 to secure a top five finish in each of her backstroke swims this weekend. 

Bella Mugno continued to find success, placing fifth in the 200 breast with a season-best time of 2:24.45. She improved her prelim time by over three seconds to touch just .09 seconds behind the fourth place finisher. 

Foltz also swam the 200 fly and recorded another sixth-place finish. She improved her prelim time by 1.31 seconds to clock a season-best time of 2:10.50.

Catholic added significant points to its score with tremendous performances in the 400 free relay to close out the meet. The first Cardinal team placed sixth with a time of 3:39.80 while the second team took eighth with a time of 3:42.58. 

Catholic ended the three day meet with 25 personal bests and 35 season bests. Wiarda secured the lone medal for the team, earning silver in the 100 back final. Mugno was the top point scorer for the Cardinals with 71 points after swimming four relays and making the finals in three individual events. 

The Cardinals will take some time off before returning to the pool for a home meet against Mary Washington on January 11.
