Men's Swimming Dominates at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - Catholic men's swimming dominated its dual meet at Randolph-Macon, winning 12 of the 14 events to outscore the Yellow Jackets 167-95. 

Jack Thompson won a pair of individual races and earned two relay victories to tally four event wins on the day for Catholic. The freshman from Downingtown, Pa. logged individual wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle while also helping Catholic to wins in the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Thompson clocked a time of 22.39 in the 50 free, just out-touching the opposition by 0.04 seconds. In the 100-yard freestyle, Thompson's victory was by a slightly larger margin as he edged out teammate Daniel Green (50.41) with a time of 48.98. 

Teddy Tsakumis joined Thompson with four victories on the day, winning three individual races as well as joining Thompson in the 400 medley victory. Tsakumis won the 100 and 200-yard backstroke as well as the 100-yard butterfly. Tsakumis won the 100 back with a time of 54.29, the 200 back with a time of 1:59.74, and the 100 fly with a time of 52.69. 

Sean Kelty and Shawn Mashburn also proved to be multiple event winners for Catholic with Kelty winning the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 400-yard IM while Mashburn won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Kelty outlasted teammate Reid Knuckles in the 1,000 free, winning the event by almost nine seconds with a time of 10:22.91. Kelty edged past Benjamin Lutcher in the 400 IM with a time of 4:19.79. Lutcher touched the wall in 4:22.40. Mashburn's victory in the 200 free was by more than a second over Green while his 500 free win came by more than four seconds over Vincent Wills

The 400 medley relay winning group consisted of Taskumis, Thompson, Wills, and John Holler as they finished with a time of 3:37.07, slipping past R-MC's time of 3:38.59. The 200 free relay team was Thompson, Wills, Holler, and James Caldwell with a time of 1:28.55.

Bill Purcell grabbed a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke while Holler just barely missed victory in the 200-yard butterfly. 

Catholic will host Elizabethtown on November 16 in the Landmark Conference affair.
