WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic women's swimming and diving team claimed a 190-67 win over Elizabethtown in Saturday afternoon's dual meet. The Cardinals finished first in 15 of the 16 events and swept two of them.
Tara Wiarda, Claire Brockmann. and Kaitlin Patt went 1-2-3 in the 100 back for the first sweep of the day. Wiarada clocked a 1:01.53 9 while Brockmann and Patt went 1:05.27 and 1:05.94 respectively. The second event dominated by Catholic was the 100 Fly. Olivia Palubinski touched first with a 1:02.91 followed by Ava Snyder (1:03.13) and Emily Albans (1:03.80).
Multiple other events saw the Cardinals finish 1-2. Snyder and Emily Blaskovich took the top two spots in the 200 Free before Wiarda and Brockmann topped the leader board in the 100 Back. Blaskovich won the 50 Free with Izzy Giannetto coming in just behind her. Giannetto also saw success in the 200 IM, this time winning the event with a time of 2:26.56 while Maura Sadowski clocked a 2:27.70 for second.
Bella Mugno also had a tremendous showing, claiming an individual victory in the 100 and 200 Breast. In the shorter distance, she clocked a time of 1:09.81 and followed it with a 2:32.99 in the 200. Molly Foltz saw a competitive 200 Fly race in which she just out-touched her competitor to win the event for her third consecutive meet. She also placed first in the 500 Free with a time of 5:31.90.
Albans won the 200 Back by a large margin, clocking a 2:14.45 to secure another victory. In the distance-free event, Sadowski completed a 500 in 11:18.94.
The Cardinals finished on a high note with a victory in the 200 Free Relay after winning the opening 200 Medley Relay to start the meet.
Catholic's next outing will be the Yellow Jack Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon. The three-day meet will run from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24.
