Inglis Books Ticket to Back-to-Back National Championships, Catholic Places Seventh at South Regionals

| By:
Jackson, Miss. – Kate Inglis punched her ticket to her second consecutive National Championship on Saturday as the Catholic women's cross country team competed at the NCAA South Regional Championship. The Cardinals finished seventh as a team out of 24 programs and had three runners place within the top-50.

Inglis continued her stellar senior campaign, placing 6th overall with a time of 22:10.37 and earning All-Region honors for the second straight season. As one of the top seven finishers from the region who is not part of a qualifying team, Inglis punched her ticket to the 2024 NCAA DIII Cross Country National Championship. She became the third Cardinal in program history to qualify individually for back-to-back National Championships, joining Anne Michels ('90 & '91) and Terrilyn LaCoursiere ('88 & '89).

Senior Emily Moehringer was also an All-Region selection, earning the honor for the first time in her career. She was the second Cardinal to finish, clocking a 23:15.22 to place 29th. She improved her position from a season ago by nine spots and ran over 20 seconds faster. This marks the fourth consecutive season that Catholic has earned at least one All-Region honor and the third straight season with two or more.

Sophomore Laurel McMahon rounded out the top 50 with a time of 24:04.26. She beat out her competitor from Lynchburg by over a second to snag the final spot in the top third among a field of 169 runners.

The two other point scorers for Catholic were senior Georgia Nussey and freshman Catherine Lorelle. Nussey crossed the finish line in 64th (24:30.44) while Lorelle followed in 85th (25:26.30). Sophomore Alexa Grassi also had a strong showing and was just 10 seconds off pace to break into the top 100. She came in 105th with a time of 26:07.34.

Inglis' individual qualification marks the ninth time in program history that a Cardinal has booked her ticket to the national meet courtesy of their run at regionals. Catholic's seventh-place finish as a team is just three spots behind its 2023 finish which was the program's best since 1991.

Inglis will run the final 6k race of her career next weekend in Terre Haute, Indiana. The NCAA Championship meet will take place on Saturday, November 23 beginning at 11 a.m.
