Catholic Remains Undefeated in Landmark Conference with Dominant Victory Over Elizabethtown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Catholic University men's swimming and diving team defeated Elizabethtown, 204.5-57.5, at the Dufour Center Pool on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated against Landmark Conference competition. 

With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 4-1 in dual meets this season and 3-0 in the Landmark Conference.

Jack Thompson led the Cardinals with four event victories on the day. He swam a season-best time in both the 50 Free (22.07) and the 100 Free (48.80). He also was a member of both victorious relays for the Cardinals, helping to start the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay before closing things out with a first-place finish in the 200 Free Relay.

Jackson Hicks and Teddy Tsakumis also had standout performances, both earning three first-place and a second-place finish. Hicks won the 1000 Free with a time of 10:24.47 before touching first in the 200 Breast with a 2:14.72. Tsakumis earned his individual victories in the 200 Back (2:05.69) and the 100 Fly (52.80). Both Cardinals swam a leg of the 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay to round out their day. 

The Cardinals finished 1-2-3 in back-to-back events early on in the meet. The 200 Free saw Daniel Green take first with a season-best time of 1:48.72 followed by Vincent Wills (1:50.51) and Shawn Mashburn (1:51.26). The 100 Back featured Sean Kelty in first (56.72) with Paul Lacava (1:00.03) and Jacob Panzarella (1:00.44) right on his heels. 

The 500 Free saw similar results as Mashburn picked up the win while Sean Kelty and Aidan Malvey claimed second and third. 

Bill Purcell and John Holler rounded out the first-place finishers for Catholic. Purcell claimed first in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:02.05 while Holler won the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.32. 

Next up, the Cardinals will travel to Randolph-Macon for three days of competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Events are set to start on Friday, November 22.
