Cardinal Men Place Fifth at Landmark Fall Preview

SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, Pa. - Catholic improved on its Saturday score by 12 strokes, moving up to a fifth-place finish at the Landmark Conference Fall Preview this weekend. 

The Cardinals shot 313 (+25) led by a strong Sunday from Darren Horton to move Catholic past Goucher. The Cardinals finished the weekend with a score of 638 (+62), two shots ahead of the Gophers and three shots ahead of Juniata. 

Horton carded a 74 (+2) on Sunday after an opening-round 79 to finish in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard. Moravian's Jason Koch won the tournament by three strokes with a score of 146 (+2). 

Horton shot even-par on the front nine with birdies on the second and sixth holes. He shot 38 (+2) on the back nine with a birdie on 13. 

Joe Earley shot 158 (+14) with rounds of 79-79 to finish inside the top 20 in a tie for 18th. Earley was also stronger on the front nine, shooting 38 (+2) with a birdie on number two. 

Timothy Cleary improved by four shots on day two, recording a 79 (+7) to put him in 28th for the tournament. Cleary shot even-par on the back nine with birdies on 11, 12, and 16. 

Matthew Dietl and Mario Ventresca rounded out the group for the Cardinals, finishing in ties for 34th and 36th respectively. Dietl was three strokes better with an 81 (+9) today while Ventresca shot identical rounds of 84. 

Today's event concludes the fall golf season as the Cardinals will gear up for the championship season in the spring.
