PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Catholic women's rowing team took four boats to the Head of Schuylkill regatta on Saturday. The Cardinals performed exceptionally well, beating out over half the field in multiple races and earning a bronze medal.
Catholic had two boats compete in the Women's Championship 4+ division. The crew featuring
Sadie Mattaliano (coxswain),
Abigail Harris (4),
Mary Igoe (3),
Giada Gloria (2), and
April Penny (1) placed 32nd in the field of 76 with a time of 15:22.06. They were the fourth Division III boat out of 22 to finish. The second Cardinal boat in the event featured
Ashley Reardon (coxswain),
Anne Mountcastle (4),
Claudia Hindley (3),
Katherine Elizabeth Ma (2), and
Ellie Tynan (1). This crew crossed the finished line less than 20 seconds later, recording a time of 15:40.477 for 42nd place.
The Women's Club Championship 8+ boating of
Katherine Hourani (coxswain),
Lauren McGinn (8),
Ellie Tynan (7),
Anne Mountcastle (6),
Claudia Hindley (5),
Bridget Robben (4),
Charlotte Fritz (3),
Katherine Elizabeth Ma (2), and
Mary Igoe (1) placed 20th out of 48 in their event. They clocked a time of 13:49.303 to make the top 20 by less than two seconds.
The Women's Novice 8+ crew featured
Kallen Kennedy (coxswain),
Maddie Smith (8),
Sabrina Apelian (7),
Natalia Pardo-Neira (6),
Madelyn Bronson (5),
Clare Gallagher (4),
Christina Solomonides (3),
Ana Sanchez (2), and
Marelyn Diaz (1). They worked together to record a time of 16:30.069 and earn a bronze medal as the third Division III team to finish. Overall, the crew placed 14th against 22 other competitors.
The Cardinals are back on the water next weekend as they compete at the Head of the Occoquan at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax, Va.
