SCRANTON, Pa. – The Catholic men's swimming and diving team picked up its second win of the season with a 171-123 victory over Scranton on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals are now 2-1 overall and undefeated in the Landmark Conference.
Catholic started the day by placing first in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of
Teddy Tsakumis, Jackson Hicks, Vincent Wills, and
Jack Thompson swam a 1:37.75 to just out touch their opponents. This marks the fastest time the Cardinals have clocked in this event this season.
John Holler recorded the next win for the Cardinals in the 200 Free. He also added wins in the 100 Free and the 200 IM. The sophomore finished the 200 Free in 1:50.10, just ahead of teammate
Daniel Green who swam a 1:50.81 to place second. He touched the wall in 50.01 seconds in the 100 Free and clocked a 2:02.02 in the 200 IM.
Tsakumis continued his winning ways in the 100 and 200 Back and the 100 Fly. He clocked a season-best time of 55.37 in the 100 Back and finished the 200 in 2:04.19. His fly time of 53.30 was also a season best and secured him a victory by .04 seconds.
Wills picked up an individual win in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:01.55 and swam a season-best in the 100 Fly.
Shawn Mashburn won the 500 Free with a season-best time of 4:57.31. He beat his previous time of 5:01.29 from the meet against Drew to start the season.
In the 100 Breast, Catholic went one-two-three to snag much-needed points. Hicks led the charge, clocking a 1:00.49 for his second win of the day.
Bill Purcell followed with a 1:02.45 while Thompson came in third with a 1:02.46. Hick also won the 200 Breast with a season-best time of 2:13.70.
Charles Connolly III and
Jack Walsh represented the Cardinals on the diving boards once again. Connolly scored a 196.75 for second place on the 1-meter and took first from the 3-meter with a 198.05. Walsh finished third from the one and three-meter with scores of 192.90 and 181.95 respectively.
The Cardinals will travel to Randolph-Macon for their next meet on November 2.
