PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Catholic men's rowing team competed at the Head of Schuylkill on Saturday for its second regatta of the season. The Cardinals boated four crews on the Schuylkill River and went home with a bronze medal.
The Men's Championship 4+ crew of
Aileen Farrelly (coxswain),
Sean Farrelly (4),
Sean Morgenstern (3),
Bryce Wnek (2),
and
Luis Piñero (1) placed 22 out of a field on 33. They clocked a time of 14:08.455, beating out their next closest competitors from Marist College by less than a second.
The Men's Championship 8+ (1st Varsity) boat featuring
Matthew Blomgren (coxswain),
Jack Koubek (8),
David Fritz (7),
Jonah Stofko (6),
Ryan Lewis (5),
Alexander Canada (4),
Timothy Kling (3),
Mason Zajac (2), and
Sean Farrelly (1) also placed 22nd. They finished in 12:29.791 after recording a 3:06.3 at the first checkpoint and an 8:37.2 at the second.
The Men's Club Championship 8+ (JV) boating of
David Bernardo (coxswain),
Sean Morgenstern (8),
Thomas Robertson (7),
Paul O'Connor (6),
Charles Moran (5),
Caleb Gascoyne (4),
Alan Nicholas (3),
Luis Piñero (2), and
Samuel Griffith (1) placed 40th out of 50 with a time of 13:14.415. They beat out fellow rival Stockton by over 10 seconds.
The Men's Novice 8+ crew of
Maely Gomez (coxswain),
Caleb Gascoyne (8),
Peter Huber (7),
Liam Schuette (6),
Julian Vences (5),
Andrew Oross (4),
Patrick Burke (3),
Kyle Ivey (2), and
Samuel Griffith (1) won a bronze medal on the day as the third Division III boat to finish. They recorded a time of 14:34.231 to slot in between Delaware and Stockton who also recorded times around the 14-and-a-half minute mark.
The Cardinals have one more race on their fall schedule. They will compete at the Head of the Occoquan next Saturday in Fairfax, Va.
