Cardinals Open 2024-25 Season at the Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Catholic women's rowing had a strong showing in its first race of the 2024-25 season on Sunday. The Cardinals sent two boats to the Navy Day regatta to competed in the Women's Collegiate 8+ and the Women's Collegiate 4+ events.

The variety eight boat of Sadie Mattaliano (coxswain), Anne Mountcastle (stroke), Mary Igoe (7), Lauren McGinn (6), Charlotte Fritz (5), Bridget Robben (4), Claudia Hindley (3), Katherine Elizabeth Ma (2), and Ellie Tynan (bow) record a 23rd place overall finish in a field of 26 boats with a time of 17:02.29. The crew finished less than one second behind Monmouth who came in 22nd and just under 30 seconds ahead of Stockton who finished 24th. 

Penn's A boat marked the best collegiate effort of the event, finishing in 14:52.26, while their B boat and Georgetown's B boat rounded out the top three with times of 14:53.63 and 15:24.72 respectively.

The varsity four boat of Ashley Reardon (coxswain), Abigail Harris (stroke), Mary Igoe (3), Giada Gloria (2), and April Penny (bow) finished 22nd overall with a time of 18:22.78. They beat out La Salle University and Jefferson's B boat. 

Penn and Georgetown held the top spots once again with both of Penn's A boats securing first (15:17.20) and second (15:46.38) while Georgetown's A took third (15:46.69).

The Cardinals are back in action next week as they were selected to compete at the Head of the Charles in Cambridge, Mass. on October 20.
