WASHINGTON, D.C. – Catholic women's swimming and diving kicked off the 2024-25 campaign with an impressive 183-95 win over Drew on Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center Pool.
The Cardinals are now 2-0 against the Rangers in regular season openers under head coach
John Bodden. Catholic had five one-two finishes in the meet, securing the top two spots in the 100 and 500 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, and 200 Fly.
Tara Wiarda and
Emily Albans led the way for the Cardinals with wins in each of their four events. Wiarda paced the field in both backstroke events, clocking a 1:01.95 in the 100 and a 2:12.98 in the 200. Albans found similar success in the 100 Free (56.34) and the 100 Fly (1:03.59). The duo paired up with
Bella Mugno and
Grace Kelly in the 200 Medley Relay to open the meet with a first place finish with a time of 1:53.74. They also ended the meet with the 200 Free Relay, adding
Izzy Giannetto to the squad in place of Mugno, to secure a two-second win.
Mugno added another win to her totals in the 100 Breast with a 1:10.67 while Giannetto took the 50 Free with a collegiate PR time of 25.50. Freshman
Molly Foltz also earned wins in her first collegiate action, claiming victories in the 1,000 Free and 200 Fly.
Rounding out the event winners for the Cardinals were
Maura Sadowski in the 500 Free (5:31.53) and
Madison Gozdan in the 200 IM (2:17.97 9).
Catholic had three athletes compete from the 1-meter diving board.
Mychaela Dunham took second with 110.90 4 points,
Jordan Hewitt placed third with 98.10, and
Annie Munn finished fourth with 87.80 2.
The Cardinals will host American for their next meet on Friday, October 18 starting at 1 p.m.
