LANDOVER, Md. — It was a successful day for the Catholic University women's track and field team as a slew of Cardinals performed well at the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic.
Kate Inglis won the 3,000-meter run by more than four seconds, clocking a time of 10:42.43, while Sadie Abood joined her in the top-five with a sub-11 minute time. Abood ran a personal-best 10:59.29 to place fourth and move up to fifth-fastest all-time in Catholic history. Georgia Nussey was the third Cardinal to finish in the top six, posting a time of 11:08.22.
In her first career meet, Lauren Cerda grabbed a pair of top-five finishes. She posted an impressive run of 5:14.38 to place fifth with the seventh-fast mile time in Catholic history before posting another fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:22.23).
Junior Apolline Gaspers beat Cerda to the line in the 800m, placing third with a personal-best time of 2:19.38. Matching their finishing positions on the day, Gaspers moved to third and Cerda fifth on the program's all-time performance list.
Underclassmen had a big day for the Cardinals. The freshmen pair of Brigid Byrnes and Edith Tomasek placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 60-meter hurdles as Byrnes went 9.46, just .01 off the program record in the event, while Tomasek clocked in at 10.08.
Freshman Laurel McMahon also earned her way onto Catholic's all-time top-10 list with her distance run in the 5,000m. She ran 19:40.9 for a bronze-medal finish to become the 10th fastest Cardinal ever in the event. Senior Stella Noecker also claimed a top-five finish in the event, clocking in at 19:50.48 to place fifth.
Freshman Sabrina Beniquez grabbed a top-10 finish in the 400m, clocking in at 1:01.98 to place ninth while Ciara Donegan set a new personal-best mark in the weight throw, tossing 12.42 meters to place eighth. Donegan also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 11.30 meters.
The Cardinals will return to action next weekend when they make the short trip to George Mason for the Patriot Games, with the meet beginning on Friday.

Robert (Bob) Comstock was a Catholic University of America track star and coach who had a remarkable career on behalf of CUA as a student, an athlete and alumnus.
Bob graduated from Catholic in 1958, having starred as a sprinter on the school's track team, and having played on Catholic's basketball and baseball teams as well. After
graduation in May 1958, Bob served in the United States Air Force where, among other things, he piloted the F-104 Starfighter. He returned to Catholic and graduated from the university's Columbus School of Law in 1964. While in law school, Bob coached Catholic's cross country and track & field teams, and went on to found the National Invitational Indoor Track Meet for which he was Meet Director from 1968 through 1976.
In addition to having a remarkable business career in the banking industry, and in his profession as an attorney and founder of the D.C. law firm Comstock & Reilly LLP, Comstock served for years on Catholic University's Board of Trustees. He was a Trustee of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception as well.
Bob was a talented and generous contributor to Catholic University for decades, first as a student and athlete, then as a coach and a Trustee. His legacy is great, and he will be missed.Â
