ARLINGTON, Va. - Catholic men's swimming & diving opened up the 2024 portion of its schedule with a 137-125 victory over Marymount (Va.) on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals will make the quick turnaround for competition at Mary Washington tomorrow afternoon.
Nathan Ober,
Teddy Tsakumis, and
Sean Kelty each earned a pair of individual victories for the Cardinals while Ober earned a pair of silver medals via relay. Tsakumis was part of one second-place relay finish on the day.
Ober picked up victories in the 50 and 100 breast, pacing the field with times of 27.01 and 1:00.51. Tsakumis won the 50 and 100 back, finishing just shy of his season-best time in the 50 with a time of 25.60. Tsakumis posted his fastest time of the season in the 100 back, winning the race with a time of 54.75, the fifth-fastest time in the Landmark this season.
Kelty was victorious in the 200 IM and 1,000 freestyle. Kelty won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.59. He currently holds the second-fastest time in the Landmark behind Ober with a PR time of 1:56.73. Kelty came away with the 1,000 free victory with a time of 10:03.61.
John Holler,
Daniel Green, and
Shawn Mashburn each won an individual event for the Cardinals. Green raced to victory in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.98. Holler swam to a win in the 100 fly with a time of 53.99 and Mashburn outlasted the competition in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.49.
Aiden Miller and
Jackson Hicks each earned individual second-place finishes while Miller was a part of both second-place relay teams. Miller finished the 50 free in 22.72 seconds to take silver while Hicks swam a time of 5:02.80 in the 500 free, finishing behind Mashburn.
Ober, Hicks, Miller, and Holler combined for a time of 1:39.25 in the 200 medley relay while Ober, Holler, Tsakumis, and Miller finished the 200 free in 1:30.18, finishing just shy of Marymount's time of 1:30.01.
Catholic improves to 2-3 in dual meets this season ahead of tomorrow's meet at Mary Washington.
