Catholic Records Convincing Victory at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team beat Elizabethtown 166.5 to 94.5 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-2 on the season. The Cardinals had seven different swimmers record a season-best and took first place in nine different events. 

Maura Sadowski had an outstanding day for the Cardinals. She helped her team to a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay by swimming a season-best split during the opening backstroke leg. She went on to win the 200-yard backstroke and earn second place in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle. She dropped over nine seconds off her 500-yard freestyle time to record a 5:36.57. 

Katie Herman was also a big contributor for Catholic. The 2023 NCAA qualifier won three events including an individual victory in the 50-yard freestyle and team victories in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay. She also picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.78

Other notable swims included first-place finishes by Grace Kelly in the 100-yard breaststroke, Bella Mugno in the 200-yard breaststroke, Tara Wiarda in the 100-yard backstroke, Angele Parral in the 100-yard butterfly, and Ava Snyder in the 1000-yard freestyle. Snyder's distance freestyle performance was a season-best at 11:08.61. 

Izzy Giannetto notched the greatest percent improvement in an individual event among her teammates. She decreased her 50-yard freestyle time by 5.8 percent to finish in 26.66 seconds and secured third place. 

The Cardinals will travel to Loyola (Md.) next week for a two day meet starting on Friday, December 1.
