SCRANTON, Pa. – The Catholic University women's swimming and diving team dropped a Landmark Conference meet against a competitive Scranton team on Saturday, falling 200-87.
The Cardinals started the meet off with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
Tara Wiarda, Bella Mugno, Emily Albans and
Katie Herman clocked a time of 1:53.96, less than one second behind the first-place Scranton quartet.Â
Catholic's first win of the day came from Wiarda in an individual event this time. The recent Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week finished the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.58 and also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.44. She beat her seed time by almost 30 seconds.Â
Herman also had a successful day individually, coming into the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle. The sophomore sprinted for 25.41 seconds to beat out the other 10 swimmers in the pool and finish right on pace with her previous outing.Â
Mugno couldn't let the day go by without joining her teammates at the top of the leaderboard. She got a win in the 200-yard IM with a fast backstroke leg and a final time of 2:21.46.Â
With the result, the Cardinals move to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark Conference.Â
Catholic will host their first meet of the season on Saturday, Nov. 4 against Randolph-Macon. The first event is set to start at 1 p.m.
