Cardinals Drops Meet Against Scranton Despite Obers Dominate Breaststroke Performance

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Catholic University men's swimming and diving team was barely edged out in a dual meet against Scranton on Saturday afternoon, falling 158-138.

Both relay teams for the Cardinals earned second place. The 200-yard medley team of Nathan Ober, Jackson Hicks, John Holler and Liam Crecca touched the wall in a photo finish with a time of 1:37.62, just .04 seconds behind first. The 400-yard freestyle relay featuring Tristan Burrola with Holler, Ober and Crecca this time came in at 3:15.90, only .08 seconds off first. 

Holler had a great day individually with a win in the 200-yard freestyle. He beat his seed time to record a new season low of 1:46.44. 

Ober dominated the breaststroke events, touching the wall first in the 100-yard and 200-yard races. He swam a 1:00.84 in the short-distance competition and a 2:18.47 in the eight-lap race while Crecca grabbed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle. Three swimmers finished within .2 seconds of each other and Crecca got the better of them with a 22.45. 

In the diving well, Charles Connolly and John Walsh combined to score 25 total points. Connolly took first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events with scores of 184.45 and 209.15, respectively. Walsh took third in the 1-meter with a 177.05 and improved his place to second in the 3-meter with
164.31. 

The Cardinals return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 4 when they host Randolph-Macon. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
